Better separate subjects from the background by allowing wider apertures, effectively decreasing depth of field.
The ND16 filter passes through 1/16 of the incoming light. This is equal to a 4-stop filter strength— ND32 reduces shutter speed by 5 stops, ND64 reduces shutter speed by 6 stops.
