Choosing a Flight Controller
Choosing the best flight controller for your drone as well as your flying style is no easy task, as there are no shortage of different types of Flight Controllers available right now.
For those of you that are just starting out with Freestyle and Racing drones here is a basic to know if you're feeling totally overwhelmed!
What is a Flight Controller?
- A Flight Controller, frequently referred to as "FC" is basically the "brain" of the aircraft. It's a small circuit board that is extremely important, it has sensors that detect directional changes and orientation of your drone as well as constantly receiving commands from you (the pilot) and controls the motors to keep you in the air.
- Nearly all flight controllers have basic sensors such as Gyro (Gyroscopes) and Acc (Accelerometer). Some FC might include more advanced sensors such as Barometer (barometric pressure sensors) and magnetometer (compass).
- Racing drone flight controllers are rapidly evolving: smaller, using better processors and hardware and getting more and more features integrated.
Here are a few of our favorite Flight Controllers we carry in the shop!
The Matek F405-STD Flight Controller is an F4 FC with 32K sampling support from the ICM20602 gyro connected through SPI. It has an SD card slot to log all the data you want. In addition to working with Betaflight, this flight controller is also fully compatible with iNav.
Pairs perfectly with the Matek FCHUB-6S PDB for a truly 6s compatible stack, all with just an FFC connection, no soldering.
DALRC F405 Flight Controller comes equipped with the STM32F405 high-quality MCU, MPU6000 gyro, built-in OSD, and 9V/3A BEC. DALRC took the advice of pilots to make a board with a rational layout and prevent solder jumping to another pad and shorting components.
This board pairs perfectly with the DALRC Engine 4-in-1 ESC, and with it, you don't need to solder, just plug it in with the included cable. (With other brands solder is required.)
The Aikon flight controller is a new generation flight controller designed specifically to work with the Aikon AK32 4-in-1 ESC. We've packed all the greatest features into one seamless flight experience.
